This Weeks Eats + Finding Meaning in Everything

by Ashley on February 26, 2014

Hi friends! Happy hump day! I hope you all had a lovely Wednesday! This week has gone a little bit slow over here… busy but slightly slow!

Workouts have been hard and food has been tasty, per usual!

Monday night was Pan-Fried Tofu (if you haven’t entered my tofu giveaway from Monday be sure to do so!), Brown Rice Pasta Salad, Roasted Broccoli and a Salad.

Last night was Garlic, Lemon and Dill Salmon with Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Balsamic Roasted Asparagus…

This morning I had an extra 10 minutes before I had to be out the door so I threw together a White Bean and Kale soup in the crock pot for tonight… It tasted better than it looked so I’ll spare you from looking at the picture.

Anyway, tonight I want to share with you a little bit of mid-week motivation that a coworker shared with me. I feel like these words can be applied to so many different areas of life…

Make sure it means something

The way to get more focused is not to try harder. The way to become more focused on something is to make sure it is meaningful to you.

When you’re genuinely interested and passionate about something, it’s not a struggle to stay focused on it. On the contrary, it’s a joy.

To achieve more focus, the question to ask is not how. The essential question to ask is why.

If you cannot connect what you’re doing to a good, personally meaningful reason, you’re simply not going to be able to focus on it. Life is too precious to spend it doing meaningless stuff, so move on to something else.

Either there is a compelling reason behind what you’re doing or there is not. When you’ve got a good reason and you’ve got a good connection to it, the focus is there.

Whatever you’re doing, make sure you’re aware of why it means something to you. That way, you’ll do it with focus, discipline, commitment and effectiveness.

— Ralph Marston

Isn’t this the truth? Aren’t we all better at the things that we are truly passionate about? This can be applied in other areas of our lives as well: why do we exercise? why do we eat healthy? why do we want to lose weight? why do we choose to save when spending is much more fun? We do all of these things for the reward in the end – the ultimate goal. As long as we have good reason, it’s much easier to stay motivated to keep pushing forward.
Is there anything in your life that you need to reevaluate and ask yourself why instead of how?

Have a wonderful evening my friends!

Good health!

I’m reevaluating as we speak. I’m asking myself how instead of why. I know the why of my dream. Now it’s just figuring out the realistic how 🙂

Isn’t that the truth Jill! Logistics and realities can sometimes slow us down, but definitely don’t have to stop us!
