Weekend: Alvin Ailey + Yummy Eats + Cardio/Arm Workout

by Ashley on February 16, 2014

Good morning! Happy, happy Monday! I’m hoping for a productive and healthy week after veering slightly off of my usual routine last week (I’m blaming it on the snow) and this weekend (still blaming it on the snow). Although the only thing constant in my life is change, I still struggle when my routine changes even in the slightest bit.

As I mentioned at the end of last week, on Friday night my sister and I went to see Alvin Ailey at the Fox Theater. The show was incredible, especially the final act, Revelations.

Although I couldn’t spend the evening with my Valentine, he still made me feel special states away!

Some girls prefer jewelry, chocolate and flowers on Valentine’s Day, I’ll take new tennis and an orchid any day of the week!

I popped up bright and early on Saturday morning and took the pups for a 3 mile run and then headed to the gym to take a long-overdue yoga class.

It was my first time taking a class at my new gym and I have to admit, it was no studio class. Since the gym has to satisfy all levels, this class seemed slightly boring and a little too basic for my preferences. I was rather excited about not having to pay for both a gym and a yoga studio membership, but it doesn’t look like that is going to be possible after all. We’ll see!

I spent Saturday afternoon meal prepping for the coming week, trying to do better about not spending every minute when I return home from work standing in the kitchen. Lately, it’s been wake up, gym, get ready, work, come home, cook dinner, prep breakfast, eat dinner, clean up, go to sleep and do it all over again. I really value time to relax, unwind and take in everything that happened in the day before going to bed so hopefully this week that will be possible!

I prepped a pan of roasted veggies, Chick Pot Pie, Veggie Lasagna, protein bars and a few more things…

After all of the cooking, the hub returned home later Saturday evening, so I spent the rest of the evening with him since he had to be gone most of yesterday too.

Despite that, Sunday’s are by far my favorite day of the week! After hitting the bed pretty early on Saturday night, although I didn’t wake up near as early as the hub, since I wake up so early throughout the week, my body naturally woke up pretty early again. I practiced my omelet making skills for him, whipped up a batch of steel cut oats for the next few days and also made green smoothies for yesterday and today.

After breakfast, I headed to the gym for a much needed tough cardio + arm workout made for me by the hub…

— Cardio:

  • 5 minute light jog
  • 20 minutes, 30 seconds sprint/30 seconds rest
  • 5 minute walk

— Arms (3 x 10 each):

  • Curls w/ Curl Bar superset w/…
  • Reverse Skull-crushers
  • Hammer Curls superset w/…
  • Dumbbell kickback
  • High Cable Curls superset w/…
  • Rope Press Downs
  • Pull up bar hangs (for forearms/upper body stretch)

….

I ran a few more errands, got a mani/pedi and did a little bit of shopping yesterday where I saw this quote that I want to leave you with as we start another week…

What’s your favorite day of the week? Although I love Fridays and Saturdays, Sundays are by far my favorite!

Have an awesome Monday!

That’s funny that we both saw the same quote on the same day! Wonder if we were in the same place?!

Isn’t it a good one? I love when I run across a good quote – I’ll take inspiration anywhere that I can get it 🙂
