Fit Friday: Burn Off Those Christmas Cookies with a Tabata Workout!

Hi friends! Happy Friday! I love short weeks like this! Today I am linking up with Jill for another rendition of Fit Friday and sharing a great Tabata workout that can be done anywhere! You all know that I love Tabata workouts because they are hard enough to make you feel like you’ve had a great workout but quick enough to be done regardless of how busy you are.

I sure hope your gym or workout space is more crowded than mine was on this Fit Friday morning!

As we arrive at the end of the holidays, it’s important to stay motivated in order to finish 2013 healthy and strong! What better way to burn off those Christmas cookies than a tough workout? Regardless of how much or little time you have, Tabatas get the job done in only a small about of time. While I still love a good weights workout, I also enjoy HIIT style workouts like this one too! The easiest way to do this is to download the Interval Timer app on the iPhone and set it up for the following: 20 seconds on, 10 seconds rest totaling 8 sets in 4 minutes. This workout includes three Tabata series with 3 separate one minute rest periods in between totaling 15 minutes total.

Remember, in order for Tabata training to be effective, you have to push yourself and go hard on every set. 15 minutes isn’t that long but it can be highly effective if done correctly. 

Just as I always note, always consult your physician before starting any workout program. I am not a personal trainer, I just like to share the workouts that I find fun and effective. Proper form trumps weight every time.

I have been a long time believer that I have to have 1 hour for a good workout. That may change and I will be able to answer your question after I finish a 90 day round of P90X3. It will be interesting to find out!

I usually do one set and not 3 but I will give this a try Monday. My sisters are in town so I might try this on them tomorrow. Thanks for the program.
