Thursday Review: The Biltmore

by Ashley on August 8, 2013

Hi there! Thursday already! We’re back on the road today so I’ve been unpacking/packing all morning long. I hope to use this time on the road to get a lot accomplished. For some reason, I always get more done on the road than I ever do at home. Too many distractions, good distractions that is!

A few weeks ago I shared a post on our “Good Eats in Asheville” but after all that food, I decided to hold off on our day spent at the Biltmore. Today I’m going to share our day spent there in pictures. After so many good restaurants, spending the day at the Biltmore was the perfect end to our trip. We walked around for hours, putting that fuel to good use!

If you’ve never visited the Biltmore, I definitely recommend that you make the trip. To put it perfectly, it is an American Treasure. It is timeless, breathtaking, and fascinating.  From the brochure, it is an “oasis with acres of gardens and a 250-room chateau filled with priceless treasures.” It is still American’s largest private home with gardens, the Antler Hill Village and Winery, an inn, restaurants, shops and 8,000 acres of Blue Ridge Mountains. The Vanderbilt’s certainly lived a life luxury, beauty, and freedom.

Upon our arrival at the beautiful home.

A view from the first floor balcony.

I could get used to drinking my morning coffee out there! 😉

Imagine if this were your backyard.

Thanks iPhone Panorama for the breathtaking views!

A view from the gardens which were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same man that designed Central Park in New York.

There was so much beauty.

Plants for days.

Leaving the house, we ended up walking around the gardens for hours and finally made it down to the waterfall.

We made it back to the house after hours of wondering.

Completely exhausted after a full day of walking but well worth every step!

Have you ever visited the Biltmore? I want to go back! I think I may have to start watching Downton Abbey after this trip!

I hope you have a great Thursday!

 Good health!
