TOTW Tuesday: Swap the Ketchup

by Ashley on July 9, 2013

Hi hi! Happy Tuesday to ya! Hope your day is going well! Any more July Yoga Challenge participators out there this week? I know a  few of you are bustin’ moves! Crane can be a hard one but over time it gets easier!

Yoga in jeans? Sign me up!

Anyways, on to today’s post.

Today’s Tip of the Week Tuesday is a quick and practical one inspired by a conversation with my hub last week. If you know Dustin, you might remember that it was actually him that turned me onto healthy eating (he’s since said he created a monster, I beg to differ;-)). He doesn’t like sweets, won’t eat sugar, avoids fried food like the plague, stays away from artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, processed soy and so on.

Last week, when we were eating at Another Broken Egg (those yummy black bean burgers!) he reached straight for the bottle of ketchup that was sitting on our table. I told him I was surprised he ate that and he questioned why. Check out the ingredient list, hub.

Back down set the ketchup bottle and him asking me why they have to put high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in ketchup. There is one reason and one reason only: it’s cheap (and it’s sweet – a win win for… NOT US.)

So today’s TOTW is to read your ketchup bottle and if it has garbage ingredients make a swap. Many companies are making HFCS free ketchup now, it’s just up to us to find it. If you don’t feel like searching and reading all of the labels at the grocery store, organic ketchup is free of it so you could quickly grab an organic bottle and be on your way. (Or you can also make your own but we will get into that another day when the beach isn’t calling my name!)

Easy enough right!?

Today is another beach day over here – the weather has been great, only wishing the hub was here!

Time to get ready for a little yoga and another beautiful day on the beach. I hope you have a wonderful day as well!

Good health!
