My Favorite Foodie Things

by Ashley on June 7, 2013

Hi friends! Happy Friday! Wahoo! The weekend is here.

This is an incredibly exiting time in our house right now because the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft is finally here! Most of you know that Dustin is a baseball scout for the Seattle Mariners so all of his hard work since joining the Mariner’s organization comes down to this weekend. Stressful but exciting! I am so proud of how hard he has worked, day in and day out and cannot wait to see how the draft pans out! (Our college alumni magazine even wrote an awesome article about him  a few months ago if you want to check it out!)

Anyways, today’s post is inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Angela, over at Oh She Glows. Some of my favorite posts of her’s are her “Things I’m Loving Lately” posts. I love learning about and trying new things, weather it be a random veggie that I have never bought or a beauty product that was worthy enough to share. I don’t know about you, but the massive amounts of beauty products sold today is completely overwhelming. Thankfully, I have a sister that keeps me informed!

Today I want to share a few of my favorite things right now. I hope at the end you will share a few of your favorite things right now with me! (These are listed in no particular order.)

  1. Hearts of Palm – Used to top salads or to eat straight out of the jar, I seriously can’t get enough! Costco sells them in packs of two jars, and I wish I was lying, but I have been known to open a jar on the car ride home. Oops! Soooo good. hearts-of-palm-350-kalynskitchen
  2. Fresh Turmeric & Fresh Ginger – The perfect addition to my green smoothies, by choosing them fresh I increase the many health benefits provided by these two roots! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
  3. Trader Joe’s Natural Facial Cleansing Pads – I’ve never felt so clean! With ingredients like witch hazel, tea tree oil and calendula, these astringent pads leave you feeling clean and refreshed sans harsh chemicals. Oh yeah, and they are cheap too! facial-cleansing-pads
  4. Dr. Bronner’s Hemp Almond Soap – This soap is mild enough to use on my face and has a very clean ingredient list too. A win win! DBR-76116-1
  5. Lululemon Run: Speed Shorts - These shorts are so comfortable and fit better than any other “fitness” shorts I’ve even worn. I love them so much that I even gave them to my sister-in-law for her birthday. Definitely worth the buck. Speed-Shorts
  6. Under Armour Fly-By Mesh Stretch Tanks – I talked about this tank on my Mother’s Day Gift Ideas Post but I’m still loving ot. I bought it in a few colors because it’s comfy and cute! ua_w_fly_image_master
  7. Larabars – One of my go-to snacks, however, I’ve recently heard that they contain GMOs, so I will definitley be looking more into that. I really hope that isn’t true but I’m afraid I’m going to be disappointed. Guess I’ll have to start making my own if so. Larabars
  8. Beetroot Juice Concentrate – I recently learned that beets are a great natural “pre-workout” because, like products such as NO Explode, beets are high in (natural) nitrates, a natural vasodilator.  Some research supports that beetroot juice concentration taken before a workout can extend the time to exhaustion during exercise. I’m excited to give it a try! Smart-Basics-Organic-Certified-Beetroot-100-Pure-Juice-844197014675
  9. Dates – I love using dates as a natural sweetener in recipes – I even used them in some dog treats that I made for Boss and Gunner recently. Not the prettiest fruit by any means but definitely the sweetest! can-i-give-my-baby-dates
  10. Your Dekalb Farmer’s Market Almond Butter – Sorry but this is for my Atlanta peeps only. This stuff is so good – far better than any jarred almond butter or fresh ground that I have had from any other store. fresh-almond-butter
  11. Meiomi Pinot Noir - Cheers to the weekend with this delicious red wine! Dustin actually sat next to the Costco wine buyer on a flight out to Seattle a few months ago and he recommend that we give this wine a try. We tried it then and loved it and it just so happened that my mom was given this as gift recently and fell in love too! IMG_3003 {Photo Source}

Great Post Ashley!
Dates are a wonderful natural sweetner and a powerhouse of energy – great for long distance runs! I did not know the Dekalb Farmers market sold fresh almond butter – I live in Lawrenceville and this is a good reason to make the drive down!
I do have a question though – where do you find fresh turmeric?

Thank you! Definitely a reason to drive down – so delicious! I actually got my turmeric there too! Double the reason to make the trip – that place is foodie heaven! Thanks for stopping by!
