Your own normal.

This past weekend, I went home, back to Alpharetta, to my parents house for a much needed, over due, weekend.  Dustin and I haven’t been back there since we moved here at the beginning of August just because we have been so busy with school.  I didn’t realize how much I just needed to go home.  I needed a reminder of normal.

Normal, to each of us, is different.  Your normal may be visiting family once a year, my normal however involves my family greatly.  I needed reminding of ‘how we do things;’ how life is supposed to be.

On the car ride back to Statesboro, I said to Dustin, “I needed that.”  ”You needed what?”  ”Just to go home.”  He said, “Well Ashley, sometimes you may not be able to go home, like, say if we have to move to like California one day (huh?).”  ”No, I’ll always make time to go home, (even if we move to Spain, just saying’).”

It’s so refreshing.  It’s like I got to forget about anything stressful in my life and just enjoy life.  I did do some school work but it didn’t bother me a bit, because I had my twelve year old sister, Cameron, there helping me.  I didn’t have to think about anything, I just got to live.  On the car ride back I also said, “Man, I really should have studied Anatomy this weekend.”  And Dustin replied, “No, Ashley, sometimes it’s okay to take a break from it all for a weekend.”  And he’s right.  It’s healthy for us to ‘just take a break.”

Now, being back in Statesboro, I’m more than ever, ready to tackle this week.  Ready to face these tests and projects with eagerness and determination, all because I took a break from it.  I was reminded of what normal is and grounded just by going home.
